How it is computed

n³ = n × n × n, exact. ∛n is the number whose cube is n, rounded to four decimals; it is a whole number only for perfect cubes (1, 8, 27, 64, 125, …).

FAQ

What is a cube root used for?+

Finding the side of a cube from its volume: a 1,000 L (1 m³) tank shaped as a cube has sides of ∛1 = 1 m. It also rescales volumes to lengths.

Does a negative number have a cube root?+

Yes, unlike a square root: ∛−8 = −2, because (−2)³ = −8.
