What does order cycle time measure?+
The total time elapsed from when a customer places an order to when it is fulfilled (shipped or delivered, depending on how you define the endpoint) — a core measure of fulfillment speed.
What inputs does this calculator use?+
The timestamp (or date/time) when the order was placed and the timestamp when it was completed at your chosen endpoint (shipped, delivered, etc.).
How is cycle time calculated?+
Subtract the order placement time from the completion time. An order placed at 9 AM Monday and shipped at 3 PM Tuesday has a cycle time of 30 hours.
Why is it important to define the endpoint consistently?+
Cycle time measured to 'shipped' will always be shorter than cycle time measured to 'delivered,' since delivery includes transit time. Comparing cycle times across teams or periods only makes sense if everyone uses the same endpoint definition.
Does average cycle time hide important variation?+
Yes — an average can look reasonable even if a small number of orders take dramatically longer than the rest. Tracking the spread (e.g., percentiles) alongside the average gives a fuller picture of fulfillment consistency.
