How do I get landed cost per unit rather than per shipment?+
Divide the total landed cost by the number of units in the shipment. This per-unit figure is what you should compare against your selling price to know your true margin.
Why is landed cost often higher than people expect?+
Because it's easy to focus only on the supplier's invoice price and forget freight, duty, insurance, and handling fees, which together can add a substantial percentage on top of the base product cost.
Does landed cost include the cost of capital or storage after arrival?+
Typically no — landed cost usually stops at the point the goods clear customs and arrive at your facility. Ongoing warehousing or holding costs after that point are a separate calculation.
