How it is computed

The list comes from the sieve of Eratosthenes: starting at 2, every multiple of each prime is crossed out, and the numbers left are prime. Each row holds ten primes in order; the first column gives their rank.

FAQ

Is 1 a prime number?+

No. A prime has exactly two divisors, 1 and itself; 1 has only one. Excluding it keeps every whole number's prime factorization unique.

How do I check whether a number is prime?+

Try dividing it by each prime up to its square root. For a number below 1000 that means primes up to 31; if none divides it, it is prime.
