Note

These are deliberately simplified models. They assume a constant rate and ignore metabolic adaptation, water weight, hormones, illness, medication, sleep and stress, so individual results vary widely — two people following the same plan can land far apart. The 7700 kcal per kilogram of body fat figure is a population average, not a personal constant. A large deficit, a fast mileage or load ramp, or a very low target body fat can be harmful; treat any flagged rate as a reason to slow down. This is NOT medical, dietetic or coaching advice — consult a qualified doctor, registered dietitian or accredited coach before acting on any projection here, and especially if you are pregnant, under 18, or managing any medical condition.

Frequently asked questions

How does the calculator estimate change in body fat percentage over time?+

It combines your projected weight change from a calorie deficit with an assumption about what portion of that loss is fat versus lean mass, then recalculates your body fat percentage against your (mostly preserved) lean body mass.

Why can body fat percentage improve even if the scale barely moves?+

If you're losing fat while gaining or maintaining muscle (body recomposition), total weight can stay flat while body fat percentage still drops, because the ratio of fat to total mass shifts even without a change in scale weight.

What determines whether weight loss comes from fat or muscle?+

Protein intake, resistance training, and the size of the calorie deficit all matter — smaller deficits combined with strength training and adequate protein preserve more muscle, while large deficits without training risk losing a higher proportion of lean mass.

How accurate are body fat percentage estimates in this kind of projection?+

They're only as accurate as the measurement method behind your starting number — calipers, scales with bioelectrical impedance, and DEXA scans all have different margins of error, so treat the trend over time as more meaningful than any single data point.

Why does the projection slow down as I approach a lower body fat percentage?+

At lower body fat levels the body defends its fat stores more strongly and the achievable rate of fat loss without excessive muscle loss slows, which is a normal physiological response reflected in a flattening projection curve.
