A 2,000 sq ft roof is 20 squares: 60 bundles of shingles, or 66 bundles with 10% for waste, starter and ridge.

How it is computed
One square = 100 sq ft (9.29 m²) of roof surface, and three bundles cover one square. Squares = area ÷ 100 sq ft; bundles = area ÷ 33.3 sq ft, rounded up. Use the sloped roof area, not the footprint: the roof area calculator converts one into the other from the pitch.
FAQ
How many bundles are in a square?+
Three for most three-tab and laminated (architectural) shingles; some heavy designer shingles take four or five. Check the wrapper.
How much waste should I add?+
About 10% for a simple gable roof and 15% for hips, valleys and dormers, which need more cuts.
