An 8 × 4 m rectangular pool with an average depth of 1.5 m holds 48,000 litres, or 12,680 US gallons.

How it is computed
Rectangle: length × width × average depth. Round: π × (diameter ÷ 2)² × depth. Oval: π × (length ÷ 2) × (width ÷ 2) × depth. One cubic metre is 1,000 litres; one US gallon is 3.785 litres. Average depth = (shallow end + deep end) ÷ 2.
FAQ
How do I find the average depth?+
Add the shallow-end and deep-end depths and divide by two. For an above-ground pool, use the water level, not the wall height.
Why do I need the volume?+
Chlorine, shock, salt and pH doses are all given per volume of water, and pump sizing depends on it too.
