Formula
V = π × (d ÷ 2)² × depth= 15.904312808798
Note
This is a simplified model: it applies a standard geometric or physical formula to the numbers you entered. Volumes assume a regular shape and an even average depth, and the kidney shape uses the common 0.45 × (A + B) × L area approximation. Chemical doses convert a target change into a product mass using the strength or label dose you enter, because the amount of active ingredient varies from product to product; they ignore pH, temperature, buffering, sunlight, bather load and existing chemical interactions. Heating uses Q = m × c × ΔT with c = 4186 J/kg·K and ignores heat losses to air, ground and evaporation; evaporation and cover figures use the rate you enter, not local weather. Aquarium stocking by surface area is a rule of thumb, not a biological limit. Always follow the product label and test the water before and after dosing, and consult a pool or aquarium professional for anything you are unsure about.

How is the volume of a round pool calculated?+
The calculator uses the circle area formula, pi times radius squared, multiplied by average depth, then converts to gallons or liters. Diameter is halved to get the radius before the area is computed.
I entered diameter, not radius — does that matter?+
No, the calculator expects diameter for round pools since that is the measurement most people can take directly with a tape measure across the water. It converts diameter to radius internally before applying the area formula.
Why does a small measurement error in diameter change the volume so much?+
Because area scales with the square of the radius, a small error in diameter is doubled in its effect on volume; a 5% error in diameter becomes roughly a 10% error in volume. Measure diameter at the widest point and, if the pool isn't perfectly circular, take two perpendicular measurements and average them.
My above-ground pool has sloped walls near the bottom — does this calculator account for that?+
This calculator assumes a uniform circular cross-section at the average depth you provide, which is accurate for straight-walled above-ground pools. For pools with a noticeably tapered or coned bottom, the true volume will be slightly less than the estimate.
How do I use the volume result for chemical dosing?+
Once you have total gallons or liters, use that figure in any dosing calculator (chlorine, pH, alkalinity) that asks for pool volume — dosing tables and formulas are all normalized per unit of volume, so this number is the key input for every subsequent water-chemistry step.
