Why compare price per 100g instead of price per package?+
Package sizes vary between brands and formats, so price per 100g strips that variable out and lets you compare the actual cost of the product itself, independent of how much is in the box.
How do I convert a price per pound or per ounce to price per 100g?+
Convert the weight to grams first (1 ounce ≈ 28.35g, 1 pound ≈ 453.6g), then divide the price by that gram figure and multiply by 100; the calculator does this conversion automatically so you don't have to track unit systems by hand.
Does this work for liquids too?+
For liquids, the equivalent comparison is price per 100ml rather than per 100g, since volume and weight aren't interchangeable unless you know the liquid's density; check which unit a product label uses before comparing.
Why might the cheaper price per 100g not be the better buy?+
If a product's price per 100g is lower only because of a smaller portion of a higher-priced ingredient, or the item is close to its expiration date, per-100g price alone won't capture that; always factor in quality and how much you'll realistically use.
Is price per 100g comparable across different types of products?+
Only within the same product category — comparing per-100g cost of coffee to per-100g cost of rice tells you nothing useful, since it's meant for comparing different sizes or brands of the same or similar product.
